We would suggest that those people wishing to go to Kuta, south Lombok that they use Sengigi as a base as there is one fast boat service directly from Padang Bai to Sengigi, tickets are limited and it also depends on the demand. Another way is all boats must stop at Bangsal Harbour for port clearance for the return journey and any Lombok visitors. Do not be fooled by the illegal taxi drivers who will charge you at least double to your destination. (if you must then we suggest sharing). You can arrange a meet and greet no problem from your hotel, or if you walk up the road 200m straight in front of you there is an official BLUE BIRD Taxi rank. Sengigi should be Rp150,000, Kuta is around 3 hours drive and will depend on the route the driver takes, but will be on an official meter.

Bangsal used to have a bad name, (20) years ago, however there is now a certain amount of organisation. There is a very very large new jetty for easier access, a ticket office and waiting area for local boats to the Gili islands on your left, (Approx. Rp18,000 pp), if your prepared to wait, on your right as you enter you will see all the boat counters in a row, snack shops and tables and chairs align the path so you can wait in front of your counter with many refreshments available. There is also a slightly cooler waiting room there for fast boats customers, this is where you can buy the ticket to be able to enter the jetty. If you arrive early go just back out of the jetty area and there a few restaurants .

Please be sure to buy your Embarkation fee of Rp10,000 / per person. (In the waiting room, including children above 2 yrs). You will also have to pay a disembarkation fee on arrival on any of the Gili islands, Bangsal and Sengigi, which is a fee of Rp 10 - 4,000 / per person.
